Going without Antiperspirants

I started using under arm deodorant only, doing away with the antiperspirant/deodorant combo. After first by the end of the day I could smell a very faint pit smell, asked the wife if she could too and on closer inspection she said no. A few days just using deodorant I couldn’t smell anything, I have also noticed when I am on the treadmill I do not sweat as strong all over my body like I used to and do not feel as hot. So it seems that my body can regulate the heat and sweat much more efficiently now. Sweating is our bodies way of cooling ourselves off and maybe inhibiting the process on one part of our body throws a wrench into the whole process we have used since primitive times. I still may use an antiperspirant/deodorant when I am dressed up for a function, I have not quit decided yet.

The Deodorant I am using is Tom’s of Maine, they use natural ingredients.

  1. I have read that Tom's deodorant contains a few chemicals that aren't too great for us. I've use Avalon organics, and it doesn't work well. It feels like putting lavender oil on my pits and calling it a day. There is a salt stick that I've used, and it's awesome. I've also heard that distilled vinegar wiped on the pits works, but I'm not man enough to try it (yet!).

I'm glad you've been able to get unplugged with antiperspirants. Too many diseases and conditions have been linked to it. I applaud you!

  2. I haven’t read anything to alarming. Tom’s of Maine is my first stop looking for alternatives to the main brands out there full of chemicals. From what I have read it is the best working of the “natural” deodorants. Thanks for the heads up though, I will keep looking for better alternatives.

I did have a reaction to Tom's of Maine! Armpit began to peel and get itchy and sting. After doing some searching it's most likely from an ingredient I would have never guessed cause the problem... Hops!

Now I am trying Burt's Bees Men's Deodorant, we will see how this works out.
